B-Boys & Beer, May 23rd!!
In light of the absence of the infamous Philadelphia B-Boy BBQ(see last post), we decided to start showing our Philly b-boys some deep heart-felt love. We hooked up with Repstyles Crew and DJ Phsh to throw our first, B-Boys & Beer @ Bamboo Lounge next Friday, May 23rd. Sign-up for the guestlist by emailing me @ Onlymusic215@gmail.com or messaging me on Myspace. This will give you reduced admission and an OPEN BAR (well drinks & domestics) from 9pm-10pm. We also have a few more drink specials running all night and from 10pm-12am (see flyer). Check out the Myspace page for more info.

I miss the B-Boy BBQ already
Yeah so the announcement was made late last week. No B-boy BBQ in Philly this year. Figures that the one thing that I look forward to all year is cancelled. Click here to find out why. In the meantime, we need some events to take its place, who's got ideas? Check out the footage from last year below.

Monday Memories - Bobby Byrd
Bobby Byrd (August 15, 1934 – September 12, 2007) was an American funk/soul/R&B/gospel musician and songwriter, best known as James Brown's longtime sideman and co-vocalist on songs such as "Licking Stick - Licking Stick", "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine" and "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved". He was born in Toccoa, Georgia.
Byrd also recorded many solo funk tracks, most famously "I Know You Got Soul" (1971), which have been sampled by musicians including Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim, Ice Cube, LL Cool J and A Tribe Called Quest. He was the original leader and founder of The Famous Flames, the vocal group with which James Brown first became famous. Byrd is actually the man who discovered James Brown.
There isn't much footage out there but here is a clip of Bobby doing his solo act for the opening of the James Brown show. He was the one who got the crowd hyped up. Here is another short clip of Bobby and James on the show.
